What is WordScouts?

Solo Word Hunt practice, in your browser

WordScouts is a free, single-player version of Word Hunt, the GamePigeon word game played over iMessage. It exists so you can practice on your own — no opponent, no iPhone, no app install, no account, no ads. It runs entirely in your browser on desktop or mobile.

How to play

Swipe (or click and drag) across adjacent letters on the 4×4 grid — or a bigger 5×5 board if you prefer — to spell words. Letters must touch horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and each tile can be used once per word. Words must be at least 3 letters long. Find as many words as you can before the 80-second timer runs out, or pick Untimed mode to search at your own pace and reveal every word on the board when you're done.

Scoring

Scoring matches the real game: 3 letters = 100 points, 4 = 400, 5 = 800, 6 = 1400, 7 = 1800, 8 = 2200, and +400 for each letter beyond 8.

Is it the same as GamePigeon's Word Hunt?

The rules, timer, scoring table, and letter adjacency all mirror the real game, and the word list is Collins Scrabble Words 2019 — the same dictionary GamePigeon uses. If a word counts here, it counts there. After each round you can review the board and see the full list of words you missed.

We keep a few short guides: the full rules and scoring, tips & strategy, the best words to memorize (all verified against the game's dictionary), and how to play Word Hunt on Android.

We also have a free solo version of Word Bites — drag letter pieces on the board to build words, with the same rules, scoring, and dictionary as the iMessage game.
