Why there's no Word Hunt app for Android
Word Hunt lives inside GamePigeon, which is an iMessage extension — it only exists inside Apple's Messages app. There's no GamePigeon app on the Play Store, and no official way to join an iMessage Word Hunt match from an Android phone. Any Play Store app claiming to be GamePigeon isn't.
The browser version: same game, any device
WordScouts is a free re-creation of Word Hunt that runs in the browser — Android, iPhone, or any computer. It matches the real game exactly:
- Same 4×4 letter grid and swipe controls (an optional 5×5 board too)
- Same 80-second timer and scoring table
- Same dictionary — Collins Scrabble Words, so a word that counts on WordScouts counts in the iMessage game
- No app install, no account, no ads
It's single-player: you play a board, get your score, and see the complete list of words the board contained. If your friends have iPhones and you're the one on Android, it's how you keep your skills sharp for whenever you do get to play — and how you settle "who's better" by comparing scores on the same practice format.
Add it to your home screen like an app
On Android, Chrome can pin WordScouts so it launches full-screen like a native app:
- Open wordscouts.com in Chrome
- Tap the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner
- Tap "Add to Home screen", then Add
The same works on a desktop: it's just a website, so it plays on Windows, Mac, Linux, or a Chromebook with a mouse or trackpad.
Playing against iPhone friends: what's actually possible
Being honest about the limits: WordScouts can't connect to iMessage, so you can't play a live GamePigeon match against an iPhone from Android. Your options are solo practice here, or getting good enough that when you borrow someone's iPhone at a party, you win. Our strategy guide and word lists can help with that part.
